research fees-      Our research fees vary by the type of research performed and the location. Research performed at NARA in College Park, MD is billed on an hourly basis. Research at either NARA in Washington, D.C. or NHC at the Washington Navy Yard incur an additional $40/day charge to cover transportation and parking costs.      Research for plans is $35/hour for those that exist on linen or paper. Plans on microfilm or aperture cards are billed at $50/hour. Hardcopy for all plans is billed at actual cost, electronic copies can be made from hardcopies at an additional cost. Some plans are small enough and sharp enough to capture with a DSLR, if this is the case we will send you a quote and allow you to choose the option you prefer.      Photographic research is $50/hour plus a burn to disc fee of $20 for the first disc and $10 for each additional disc. The per disc fee is based on the most efficient disc type for the job, we will chose CD or DVD at the time of burning. If you require CD vs DVD for large jobs we'll burn them as long as you don't mind paying for them. We scan images "as is", we do not alter any properties of the image for our professional customers other than rotating the image so it is oriented correctly. All images are saved as .tif files with a minimum dpi of 300. We retain the right to add the images to our library, you may negotiate a hold period before we add the image to our library as well. We will negotiate bulk photo research for specific Record Groups on a case by case basis. We do not add watermarks or captions to our professional line of images.

     Textual research is $50/hour plus copying and/or scanning costs. In very rare instances we find large format drawings attached to reports, the cost to copy them is as per plans. Please note that textual research is tedious and very time consuming and we cannot control the quality of copies that exist. Some documents are bound in such a way that simple photocopying or scanning is not possible without damaging the document, we will contact you if this is case. The most efficient method of capturing text documents is with a digital camera using a macro lens, the cost is $.10/page. Burn to disc fees for digital capture is the same as for photos.

     We can obtain official NARA seals at cost if you require them for hardcopy made at NARA, this is not applicable to digital copies. In all cases we will provide copies of the proper declassification "slugs" and the minimum citations required by NARA and NHC. For legal reasons we require you to use the "slugs" and minimum citations we provide if you publish the material in any medium. We request that you also cite us as your research source.

     Film research and dubbing from reference video tapes to VHS is $50/hour plus actual cost of tapes. Please note that NARA prefers research be performed using the reference tapes and the tapes don't always copy well. The tapes are to be used to order broadcast quality DVD's or tapes from archivally stored copies of the original film. Once you decide on what films or sequences you want from the tape copies NARA has a list of approved vendors for the broadcast quality copies.

     Photos ordered from our library have two price structures depending on end use. Manufacturing reference covers photos used strictly to produce a kit, aftermarket accessory or for professional model builders to render an accurate model. Manufacturing reference photos may not be published in any media, for any purpose without incurring additional fees. Publishing covers reproducing the photos in print or electronic media (including websites, hotlinking and deep linking), boxart and artist's reference images.

     The manufacturing reference price structure is as follows: 1 to 50 photos $5 each, 51 to 100 photos $3 each and 101 or more photos $2 each. Since we custom burn each CD or DVD the bulk pricing reflects a more efficient use of our time. In the Library section we have provided one sample image at full size and resolution, the quality is not quite as good as a .tif since we have converted it to .jpg format for viewing in your browser and to lessen the transmission time.

     The publishing price structure is as follows: $20 for each black and white image and $35 for each color image published in any medium (including online use) or used for boxart or artist's reference.

     Our price structure is setup this way based on industry standards and costs to obtain copies of the originals (prices for photographic prints of negatives from NARA and NHC run approx. $10 more per print than our electronic versions and an additional NARA fee of $9.50 per negative pulled).

      We do not charge a separate fee for the CD, DVD or sleeves. We will choose the most efficient disc type at the time of burning. All multi-disc products are shipped in Tyvek or paper sleeves, not jewel cases. Burn to disc fees for stock photos are $10 for the first disc, $5 for each additional disc. If you require jewel cases for multi-disc products we will provide them at cost but we prefer to keep costs down and use paper sleeves.

     All shipments will be boxed and padded to prevent damage. We ship via Priority Mail in the US and First Class Airmail internationally at actual cost rounded up to the nearest dollar. Upon request we will insure shipments for the quoted price less shipping at actual cost to us.

     Custom burns may take a week to do and we will ship once per week (either Monday or Friday as our schedule permits). If you need a rush order there is an additional $50 fee plus actual shipping cost, we really prefer to avoid overnight shipping.

     You will be provided with an index on the CD/DVD which is in Excel spreadsheet format, it will contain all the pertinent information from the index or mount card of the photo, we do not add watermarks or captions to our professional line of images.

     All research jobs require a deposit commensurate with the size of the job. For all jobs requiring hardcopy we will send you an invoice for the estimated copy costs, which must be paid in advance of us having copies made. At the end of the job you will receive a final invoice for hours expended, burn to disc fees and shipping, this invoice must be paid in full before we ship your results.

     We require payment in full before shipping any product. Payment options are US business or cashier's cheques drawn on US banks, US postal money orders, Paypal and Western Union. Payment by cheque must clear before shipping. Payments in the form of cheque or money order in foreign funds or drawn on non-US banks will be returned. Payments via Paypal or Western Union in non-US funds will be declined as both allow the payee to convert the payment to US funds at the time of payment, we will not eat the currency conversion fees. Returned or declined payments will be rebilled once with a $50 penalty assessed.
